Healthcare Liaison & Patient Advocate
Being a patient liaison and advocate means advocating for the best possible care and outcomes for patients. As a health coach, being a patient advocate involves working closely with clients to understand their unique health needs, preferences, and goals. It means helping clients navigate the complex healthcare system and advocating for their needs and concerns.
Understand Your Diagnosis
Medicine and our bodies are complex systems. I can help explain your diagnosis in terms you and your family can understand so you can make more informed choices.
Know Your Options
Sometimes it’s hard to know which treatment option is best for your situation. I can help you understand the science behind your options and know which ones are evidence based and backed by science.
Reduce Stress
Good health is one of the most precious things we can possess and when we become ill or have a physical disability occur the stress can be overwhelming. I can help reduce that stress by providing support in a number of ways.
Organize Your Health Records
I can help you gather and organize yours or your family member’s essential health records so they are easy to access by all involved in their care, reducing stress should an emergency situation occur.
Does healthcare feel like a big maze to you or your family?
If you’re fortunate, you have a primary care physician who has the time to meet with you and your family members as much as you need, to take your questions, to explain things at a level appropriate to each member, and provide extended support and counseling for you and your family. When you’re not so fortunate, a Private Patient and Family Health Advocate can make a big difference.
What Is a Healthcare Liaison & Patient Advocate?
A Personal Advocate For You
A Private Healthcare Liaison & Advocate has your best interest in mind. They ask questions, compile information, and speak up for you so you can better understand your illness and get the care and resources you need, reducing stress and giving you peace of mind so you can focus on recovery.
A Health Information Organizer
Getting health information organized can seem overwhelming. A liaison can help you get the upper hand on records and make organizing key health information for you and your loved ones easier by creating a home medical record that’s accessible to all involved family members.
A Local Connection
If you have a loved one with health problems but you live out of town, a local advocate can make a big difference, giving you peace of mind knowing your loved one’s needs are being addressed by an experienced professional.
An Experienced and Knowledgeable Caregiver
A Healthcare Liaison and Advocate has experience giving direct care to individuals in their home and has experience communicating with healthcare staff including doctors and nurses who provide instructions for recovery during a hospital stay or at home.
How do I know if a Private Healthcare Liaison & Advocate is right for me or a loved one?
When deciding whether you could benefit from the added assistance of a health advocate, there are a few questions you can ask yourself and your family members to be sure you’re making the right decision.
Do you live far from a sick family member?
Having a trusted and experienced caregiver to watch over your loved one when you live a long distance away can be a great help and be the difference between a family member getting the care they need or not.
Wish you had more time to care for a sick loved one?
We all have busy lives and when a family member becomes ill or has a medical procedure that requires a long recovery time it can take a toll on our job and family relationships. A Health Advocate can be there to step in and help when you can’t.
Stressed trying to handle a serious illness?
Are you concerned that your missing something or don’t know what to do or how to help a loved one with a complicated or serious illness? Health Advocates are not only experienced caregivers but have training and education in the healthcare and medical fields and can help you know what questions to ask and what options are available.
Have an elderly parent living alone?
For almost all of our aging family members there will come a time that we become concerned for their safety and wellbeing, even more so for family that lives alone. A Health Advocate can help you evaluate and prepare an aging family member for the eventual need of assisted living.
Struggling trying to care for a loved one with dementia?
Dementia is such a difficult condition to deal with for all involved, from the loved one living with the condition, to the immediate caregivers, to family and friends who mourn the deterioration of their relationships, a Health Advocate can be a third party support system providing experience in managing the day to day needs of the family.
My Experience
Amanda has been a gift from God to me. I am disabled however I don’t like the idea so I fight my disabilities. She helped me find a caretaker who helps clean my house, and pampers me. Amanda decided one day to take me to a lake. She is silly, fun, and always upbeat.
She helped with the trials of getting me settled in a nursing home after surgery, and was there for my medical care team and husband Jack. She treats me like I am family. She is there for me to give me hugs and just listen, I wish I could have 100 of her.
