Dietary supplements, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website as of April 2014, are products intended for ingestion that contain a “dietary ingredient” intended to add further nutritional value to (i.e. supplement) the diet. A “dietary ingredient” may be one or any combination of the following substances:

  • a mineral
  • an herb or other botanical
  • an amino acid
  • a dietary substance for use by people to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake
  • a concentrate, metabolite, constituent, or extract

Dietary supplements may be found in many forms such as tablets, capsules, soft gels, gel caps, liquids, or powders. Some dietary supplements can help ensure that you get an adequate dietary intake of essential nutrients; others may help you reduce your risk of disease while others are used in sports training and recovery.

The team at Chews Your Health encourages individuals to attain optimum health by developing a healthy lifestyle through behavior change. We believe optimum health can be achieved through eating adequate high quality foods and beverages as well as by getting adequate sleep and developing stable emotional health. Avoiding DEPENDENCE on supplementation is a core belief at CYH. We teach that supplementation should be used as a tool or bridge to achieving optimum over-all health.

Unfortunately aging, genetics, and life’s trials are not always our best friend. We are not always 100% in control of what happens to our body. Even those who are considered to be in ‘excellent health’ have come short due to some kind of biochemical malfunction. Because of these realities, we believe that high-quality supplementation has a place in helping restore normal function of the body’s various systems. One-on-one coaching can help you bridge the gap by teaching you how to recognize sub-optimal health habits and in addition teach you how to properly use high-quality supplementation to support your body on the path to optimum health.
